Wood of the Lamiae

The Lamiae haunted the forests long before the arrival of the queen. Once beautiful apparitions and shepherds of souls, the slow disappearance of their flock transformed them into bitter, horrible creatures. Rivers and streams possessed a special significance to the ancient religions of the gorge, a bridge between the realm of the living and the the spirit world. It was said the souls of those who perished young would be shepherded back into the river, and remain in the veil to one day be born again.
